 I will be running a demonstration of the arpanet in Johannesburg, South
 Africa on November 4 and 5. The demo hours are 12-5 on both days,
 Joburg time (9 hours ahead of pacific time), so during the hours of
 3 am to 8 am on Nov 4 and 5, I would appreciate having access to NS and
 PARRY, if possible. I will probably be tyring out the circuit a few days ahead of that, since I am arriving
 in Joburg on 27 October. Let me know via sndmsg to
 CERF at ISI if this is OK with you. Vint Cerf

 I HAVE COUNTED THE REPAIRED CARDS IN NEW AMPEX.
 SYSTEM= 148 CARDS
 DIED  =  23 CARDS
 SPARES=   5 CARDS
 4 CARDS NOT YET FIXED (COMPLICATED FAULTS).
 	PEAK DEATH RATE WAS 2/DAY, BUT THERE
 HAVE BEEN FEW WEEKS WITHOUT A SINGLE FAILURE.
 THIS MEMORY MAKES ME THINK THAT THE CARDS REPAIRED
 BY AMPEX HAVE NOT BEEN COUNTED IN THE ABOVE DUE
 TO REMOVAL OF THEIR RED TAGS.
 EVEN SO, THE OVERALL FAILURE PERCENTAGE IS POOR.

 I ran into Genevieve Marcus and Bob Smith at a wine tasting in LA.

 If you are not already acquainted with their EARTHLAB project, I
 think you will find this interesting and amusing reading. They
 have acquired 38,000 acres of land near San Luis Obispo for their
 first city of 50k inhabitants. They seem to have a reasonably
 large resource base available.

 ***** FTP mail from [A700SA00] (SAIL)
 Les,

 Howdy. Just thought I'd let you know that it would
 be easiest for us if all network mail of any SIGART
 business were sent to SIGART@CMU-10B, rather than
 to Jack or me directly. That will allow us to keep
 track of things easier. That area is checked for
 mail at least as often as our personal areas.

 thanx,
 	Lee

 For your information, phone service for the new imp connection will be installed
 by the phone company, starting at the end of November, with a target completion
